When the Sky Melted

Bury me beneath the sky That fell to cover o’er the ground Leave me there and know that I Am lost to you and can’t be found

Inside 03:35
I think that I would rather be inside today So come on in and see me, it’s better that way No stranger to confusion, goodbyes are just okay But don’t pretend you’ll stay ‘Cause I am in a blanket and I’m warm And the sky is always dark before the storm And I see you coming in With tears upon your chin I’m frightened of the nurse who keeps a smile for me I’m frightened of moths that fly endlessly I’d like to be a burglar with a skeleton key And a life to live so easily But I am in a blanket and I’m warm And the night is always dark before the morn And I see you coming in With tears upon your chin and I say You don’t have to worry anymore Yes I see you coming in With years upon your skin and I say You look like the face that beauty wore Take my hand and hold it Linger for a while as yours enfolds it If I overflow Promise that you won’t forget as you go away I am in a blanket and I’m warm And the sky is always dark before the storm Yes I am in a blanket and I’m warm And the night, oh the night is always dark before the morn And I see you coming in and I say

Why don’t you summon someone else You been on the lam and it’s a story to tell Ahh but you were feeling and it wasn't a sin Cajoled you when I told you I was coming in Say bonama say bonama say bonaweh 3x I got nobody else in times like this 2x If someone reaches out in the city that comes by You gotta keep 'em safe under the temporary sky With everything that happened so far you could be like a page Inside a book that God read at a younger age Say bonama say bonama say bonaweh 3x I got nobody else in times like this 2x Oh we could never see that far It’s hard to tell who we are I got nobody else in times like this I got no one else in times like this Say bonama say bonama say bonaweh 3x I got nobody else in times like this I got nobody, nobody else in times like this Nobody in times like 2x Nobody in times, I got nobody, nobody else in times like this I got nobody else in times like this 3x

The shingles on our rooftop kept the sky from seeping in It melted oozing over Home to pool upon the gravel ground Thick and heavy syrup blackstrap blue fuscation dim Descended on the earth but we were sheltered so we didn’t drown I wanted to tell you, I wanted to tell you But I couldn’t wake you, I couldn’t wake you I wanted to tell you, I wanted to tell you The soil beneath our windows may have tried but couldn’t swim It may be screaming screams below the sky but we can’t hear a sound So enveloped by such shrouds do planets cease to spin? You’d not expect a wheel to turn within such viscous thickness bound I wanted to tell you, I wanted to tell you But I couldn’t wake you, I couldn’t wake you But do rotations matter now that ocean’s met its twin? All that we knew from looking up we still know when we’re looking down Let’s raise our eyes to gaze where azure once held clouds within To see what heavens we can see now that the world’s been turned around I wanted to tell you, but I couldn’t wake you

Here, although we cannot tell the fissures in the ground from greater canyons Here, we are at home and make our peace with what's unknown Down, into those chasms that we first explored together as companions Down explores the light until it echoes into night An answer will come and so many patient people wait and stare An answer will come to all of the patient people waiting there Gusts of water, floods of wind caress this world within a world in hiding Gusts are all we feel, unending things are barely real Smile as you wallow in the wonders of the place we've been residing Smile and start to climb, there's never been a better time An answer will come and so many patient people wait and stare An answer will come to all of the patient people waiting there

(… the rest of the way… past Peters’ Drive-In…) I listen to the midnight news To take my mind away from you They talk about what might have been I fall asleep and have a dream Somebody turn it down, I want to know I want to know Nobody make a sound, I want to know I want to know If this was something we would have to worry, worry, worry If this was something we’d have to fear I dream of what the voices said While I was lying in my bed Before I turned the broadcast on To help forget that you are gone (let us face, without panic, the reality of our times) Somebody turn it down, I want to know I want to know Nobody make a sound, I want to know I want to know If this was something we would have to worry, worry, worry If this was something we’d have to fear In my radio, radio, radio There's still time to spare I'm not ready to go, ready to go But you're already there Somebody turn it down, I want to know I want to know Nobody make a sound, I want to know I want to know If this was something we would have to worry, worry, worry If this was something we’d have to fear In my radio, radio, radio There's still time to spare I'm not ready to go, ready to go But you're already there

I was standing in a lonesome room and on and on it went Nothing ever happens anyway the days have all been spent But I brought hope for the dreams I sold you When I told you the ways I'd hold you in your sleep You were only trying to be reached Now I’m standing in a crowded room and on and on it goes Nothing ever happens anymore to anyone I know But I caught hope for the dreams I sold you When I told you the ways I'd hold you in my sleep I was only trying to be reached I was waiting for you to break it down for me I was hoping that you would explain it all to me I was seeking answers in everything I’d see I was only trying, trying to be reached When I sought hope for the dreams I sold you When I told you the ways I’d hold you when we’d sleep We were only trying to be reached, to be reached

Sow your sinner's soul Just toss it to the wind out of your control Out of your control Wind Swallowing you whole Out of your control We were children then We'd listen in our rooms to everything you sent Again and again Rooms We'd keep it on a ten Again and again, oh I say to you oh, you know These troubles will come and go And life is a broken stereo I say to you oh, you know Bring the message down Floating on the waves flowing all around A signal or a sound Waves The message didn’t drown Flowing all around I say to you oh, you know These troubles will come and go And life is a broken stereo Converting us all to audio Something to sing before we go I say to you oh, you know, oh I say to you oh, you know

Footprints 03:22
Everything is soft again It's the snow that makes it so Quiet muffled world’s amen Whitewashed mosses overgrow Sheared from clouds' fleece by the cold Careless harvest, scattered sigh Mantle of a shivered soul Hiding in the falling sky And I can’t go back to where I was No I can’t go back, baby just because I been everywhere and off the track So I can’t go back, baby I cannot go back I'll leave no footprints coming home No one will see where I have been No dents in snow will show my path No angels will curl up therein For angels must have holy beds Of sainted steps by good feet laid So you'll not see them sleeping sound Within the tracks I won't have made And I can’t go back to where I was No I can’t go back, baby just because I been everywhere and off the track So I can’t go back, baby I cannot go back Oo-aa no-way no-one’s a-comin’ Oo-aa no-way no-one’s a-come

I'm off my path again I didn't see it bend I saw the lights and then I fluttered off to them I’ll try to make it right I’ll find the way I can close this Up like a maiden flight Down to the bones of my motives Oo oo, they're breaking away like violence And when I try to defend Oo oo, they break anyway like I've been And now I'm calling it There could be an answer for this Like an equation I don’t know Even if I just ignore this Everything comes before it Goes away and after it's gone Like an angel's faith that questioned the dawn There's a lucid dream to guide us along Through the clear of night to where we belong Oh oh oh oh (oo oo) Oh oh oh oh, found my way tonight Help comes from darkness then Lights can't distract us when We close our eyes to see That every path leads to mystery Oo oo, they're breaking away in silence And when I try to pretend Oo oo, they break anyway like I've been And now I'm calling it There could be an answer for this Like an equation I don’t know Even if I just ignore this Everything comes before it Goes away and after it's gone Like an angel's faith that questioned the dawn There's a lucid dream to guide us along Through the clear of night to where we belong Oh oh oh oh (oo oo) Oh oh oh oh, found my way tonight Oh oh oh oh (oo oo) Oh oh oh oh, found my way tonight I couldn’t find my way home by the light of day, the light of day, oh oh oh Couldn’t find my way home but now it’s night again, it’s night again And now I’m calling it There could be an answer for this Like an equation I don’t know Even if I just ignore this Everything comes before it Goes away and after it's gone Like an angel's faith that questioned the dawn There's a lucid dream to guide us along Through the clear of night to where we belong Oh oh oh oh (oo oo) Oh oh oh oh, found my way tonight Oh oh oh oh (oo oo) Oh oh oh oh, found my way tonight

about

Inspired by the relationship between inside and out, When the Sky Melted observes a changing world from the oppressive comfort of home. A shingled rooftop provides shelter from the melting heavens, and lonesome rooms are filled with midnight radio broadcasts. Smiling, we climb from our homes to wander a world turned upside down, tracing our paths back only to find that truly returning anywhere is impossible. Once again we are somehere new.
